When I told my sister I was ordering my lunches from Uncle Fatty, she said, “Uncle Fatty? Doesn’t sound helpful.” But trust me, it is. It really is.
Take it from someone who’s been diagnosed with GERD and has recently developed what is very likely to be lactose intolerance. GERD, if you are not aware stands for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. It means that the little muscle usually stopping food and acid from going back up the esophagus has become weak and is therefore no longer doing its job. So any time I eat any of the wrong things (I’ll get to what those are in a second), acid starts climbing back up and wreaking painful AF havoc. It’s not as painful as giving birth (I assume), but it’s probably a good 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. It makes me curl up in a ball.
To avoid such pain my gastroenterologist has advised me not to consume:
- Caffeine (I’m epileptic too, so yeah. Kind of used to not having coffee in my life. It’s a nightmare, I know, but you get used to the nightmare.)
- Alcohol (Ditto with the epilepsy.)
- Carbonated beverages
- Anything spicy
- Anything sour
- Anything fatty
- Anything oily
And taking in more than a half cup of fresh milk makes the toilet my home for the next 3 days, so yeah, no brainer lactose intolerance there.
Needless to say, I have to be very, very, veeeeeeeeeeery careful about what I eat AND drink.
This is where Uncle Fatty comes in.
Just to be clear, Uncle Fatty is not actually a person but a catering service based here in Cebu. They serve daily calorie-counted meals and salads, which they deliver to wherever you are in Cebu.
And to be totally honest, it’s been a godsend.
Aside from the fact that their meals don’t trigger my touchy tummy, they tick all the boxes that a lot of fast food places don’t, in that they are:
- Healthy – With the right amount of calories, less fat and less sodium
- Convenient – Delivered straight to you!
- Fresh (when they arrive they’re still warm)
- Affordable (as far as quality, healthy food goes)
- Prepared in sanitary conditions
Plus, they’re just delicious.
It’s been almost a month since I started ordering my work lunches from them and save for that one thoughtless afternoon I downed an ice blended drink full of milk, my tummy has been totally happy. And when it’s happy, I’m happy.
I’m not really sure how much weight I’ve lost since I started, but friends have told me I’ve lost some and that’s great, but you know what’s even better? How I feel. I love not having to deal with tummy problems on the regular. LOVE IT.
So if you’re planning on losing weight, staying in shape, or simply want delicious meals that won’t irritate your sensitive tummy, I would suggest giving Uncle Fatty a try.
As you can probably tell, I am going to keep on keeping on. Now, I just have to figure out a good way to get rid of all these reusable plastic containers these meals come in. Anybody got any ideas?
